| The UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) is used and conducted by a consortium of UK University Medical and Dental Schools for selecting and making informed decisions about the applicants who apply in these schools. UKCAT is administered by the UKCAT Consortium in collaboration with Pearson VUE, a leader in computer-based testing solutions (part of Pearson plc). |

| UKCAT is a computer-based test and delivered worldwide via Pearson VUE’s high street centers. Participating countries include US, Canada, Asia Pacific, and European Union as well as rest of Europe, Middle East, and Africa. |

| Application Procedure |

| Candidates must register themselves online for UKCAT using the secure Pearson VUE registration server. Registration usually starts in the month of May with tests beginning in July and ending in October each year. Candidates wish to take admissions in the next one or two years (includes postponed entries) should sit UKCAT before the last testing date (usually in October) in the current year. |

| Structure of the Exam |

| Unlike other academic achievement tests, UKCAT is an aptitude test, which measures cognitive abilities, attitudes, and professional behavior of the examinees. This multiple-choice test comprises of five sub-tests: |

Verbal Reasoning assesses candidates’ ability to think about written information in a logical manner with a well-reasoned conclusion. |

Quantitative Reasoning assesses candidates’ ability to work out numerical problems. |

Abstract Reasoning assesses candidates’ ability to understand relationships from information by convergent and divergent thinking. |

Non-cognitive analysis identifies traits of empathy, robustness, and integrity for a successful clinical practice. |

Decision analysis assesses candidates’ ability to deal in complex and ambiguous scenarios, to understand relationships, to make informed judgments, and decide on an apt response. |

| One separate version other than UKCAT is UKCATSEN i.e. Special Educational Needs. It is a longer version that allows these candidates to sit the exam under special arrangements. |
