Biomedical Admission Test – An Entry To The UK Medical Institutes
|
|

United Kingdom has been a popular destination attracting students from all over the world. Biomedical Admission Test commonly referred to as BMAT is an assessment of a candidate’s aptitude for medicine and other biomedical science courses. This article elaborates on BMAT with all the necessary information any aspirant would need to appear for it.

Introduction

BMAT is an admission test administered and conducted by Cambridge Assessment Agency, held on the first Wednesday of November annually. Typically, candidates appear for the BMAT at their school or college and others can register themselves for open centers in UK and overseas

Institutions
|
BMAT helps candidates get into the different biomedical courses at undergraduate level in the elite institutions of United Kingdom. Cambridge Veterinary School, Oxford Physiological Sciences, Royal Free and University College London Medical School, Imperial College Medical School, and Bristol Medical School are the institutes accepting BMAT score. Each school has a different eligibility criterion with the BMAT results valid only for 1 year.

Exam Structure

BMAT is a two hour written examination divided into 3 sections: a 60-minute test of aptitude and skills; a 30-minute test of scientific knowledge and applications; and a 30-minute writing task. The candidate can score well if he concentrates on the key skills like science, mathematics, and communication skills. Students can prepare themselves by attempting the sample tests available on the BMAT Web site. The official guide is also available at the Heinemann’s Web site

BMAT offers “Access Arrangements” for candidates taking the exam, for example 25% extra time for dyslexics or an enlarged version of the paper. Some post-examination arrangements known as “Special Adjustment” are also given to reflect temporary illness, injury or indisposition at the time of assessment.

Costs And Dates

Standard BMAT fee for a UK and an international candidate is £32.10 and £55.90, and the late fee costs £64.20 and £111.80, respectively. Some centers may add an administration fee in addition to the BMAT entry fee at the center's discretion. EU students suffering from financial crisis can get their entry fee reimbursed.

| This year, the entries will be taken from the 1st July, 2009 to the 30th of September, 2009 by 5pm GMT (for standard entries). Neither entries will be accepted or withdrawn after 15th October 2009.
